When someone wanted to sell a goat in the local market 400 years ago (and even now, for that matter) and would yell “Rare breed goat for sale at a great price” – that was marketing.

Or, when you went into a supermarket and were attracted by the packaging of a bag of chocolates, and that made you grab it and inspect it closely…

Or, as it was just a few decades ago (and still is to a certain degree now) with the advertising letters you would receive in your mailbox, or the ones you would see in the local newspaper. Or, more recently, TV or radio…

Marketing has been around forever. The only thing that has changed or got “updated” are the channels in which businesses invest their marketing efforts.

It’s all about efficiency and, as old marketing channels (like mailbox, newspaper, or even billboards, TV, or radio) get outdated (because we, as humans, have evolved), they become less efficient.

Marketing hasn’t changed that much, really. But, the channels through which marketing is conducted have changed and will continue to change.

The entrepreneurs who understand this and are willing to adapt will thrive; while the rest will struggle to survive.

So if you have a high-quality service or product to sell, then efficient marketing is all that’s missing.

Marketing is an investment, and should be the last thing you cut budget from; as marketing, if not overcomplicated and done correctly, is supposed to move your business and make you more money.
